Call for Bids: Native Artist Graphic Designer

Historical Monument Sign Design

The Walker River Emerging Business Leaders are seeking Native artists to submit bids for the design of a historical monument welcome sign to be installed at Weber Reservoir in Schurz, Nevada.

This project is funded through a 3D Project Grant from Travel Nevada and aims to honor the cultural heritage of the Agai Dicutta Numu (Walker River Paiute Tribe) while creating a welcoming and visually meaningful landmark.

Project Description
The selected artist will create a design for a large monument-style welcome sign (80 sq. feet, two-sided, 6ft. tall 12 ft. long). The concept should reflect traditional and cultural elements, including:

• A large traditional fishing net, similar to those historically used by the Agai Dicutta Numu

• The text: “Nabeshona’a Natatuma’a”  

• Inclusion of a trout as a central or supporting design element

The final design should be suitable for fabrication into a durable outdoor monument sign.

Scope of Work

• Develop and submit an original design concept

• Incorporate cultural and historical elements respectfully and accurately

• Provide a final, production-ready design file

• Participate in up to 1–2 revision rounds based on EBL board feedback

Project Budget

The total budget for this project shall not exceed $2,000. The selected compensation must include all work outlined in the Scope of Work, including concept development, final production-ready design files and up to one to two rounds of revisions.

Interested artists should include their total proposed fee in their submission.

Timeline

• Bid submission deadline: August 31, 2026

• Artist selection notification: First week of September 2026

• Design completion: September 16, 2026

Criterion

What Will Be Considered

Cultural knowledge and respectful representation

Demonstrated understanding of, connection to, or respectful approach toward the cultural heritage of the Agai Dicutta Numu (Walker River Paiute Tribe), including the traditional fishing net, trout, and the phrase “Nabeshona'a Natatuma'a.”

Quality and relevance of design concept

Artistic quality, originality, clarity of the proposed concept, and how well it creates a welcoming and meaningful landmark at Weber Reservoir.

Relevant experience and portfolio

Previous work in Native art, culturally informed design, public art, monument signs, branding, illustration, or similar outdoor projects.

Technical readiness and deliverables

Ability to provide high-resolution, production-ready design files suitable for fabrication of a two-sided, outdoor monument sign.

Project approach, timeline, and responsiveness

Clear work plan, ability to meet the September 16, 2026 completion deadline, and willingness to participate in up to two revision rounds.

*The selection board may give preference to Native artists.
